Statement

“I have spent most of my life as an overweight kid and an overweight adult.  I know what it is like to be concerned for my health and to be mocked for my appearance.  When I became a physician, I realized that I could not ask a patient to eat healthily, exercise and lose weight while I continued to do those things that I preached against.  When I was a medical resident, I made it my goal to make myself right with my patients.  In my life I have been as large as 265 pounds at 6 feet tall.  While it hasn’t always been easy (and I have certainly fallen off the boat several times), I have been able to maintain a healthy weight for the most part.  I understand where you are coming from, and I will try with my best effort to help you become who you want to be.”

"I have come to understand that we as medical doctors have done little to actually help our patients with an important problem in our society.  I believe that it is time that we “pull out all of the stops” and make it happen. ”       –Dr. James
